Kathryn Hollinrake

For Kathryn Hollinrake nature's smaller creatures have captivated her since she was a little girl. This series is her way of paying homage to their creation and existence. Her photographs are a result of a complex process, integral to her practice. Her creation of startling beautiful images incorporates collecting dead birds and insects, fabricating backdrops and layering various liquid and, more recently, wax media to create the final image.

Kathryn will be holding a private exhibition on December 11th to 13th at In a Heartbeat Gallery.

Graeme Sheffield

Guelph Artists Graeme is a self-trained blacksmith who utilizes traditional and contemporary blacksmithing techniques to create forms and textures of lasting beauty.

Inspired by the natural world around him, Graeme forges original pieces out of steel, displaying the strength of the medium while altering the original shape of the steel to give it a new character.

Graeme will be holding a private exhibition on December 4th to 6th.

Supria Karmakar

Supria Karmakar, is an encaustic mixed media collage artist living in beautiful rural Wellington County, where inspiration abounds amongst green pastures and the life giving trees.  Influenced by Eastern and Western cultures, Supria's pieces created with depth and life conjure images and  meaning symbolic and unique to the viewer.

Supria will be holding a private exhibition on Friday Dec. 18th to Sunday Dec. 20th at In a Heartbeat Gallery.

Jamie Brick

As he sculpts stone, wood and mixed media into creatures from a world that lies just left of centre, Jamie rarely know ahead of time how or if it will turn out.  He likes to let a character evolve from the material that he is working with. If sometime during it's creation it makes him smile or sit back in wonder then he feels he has succeeded.  Jamie lives in the forest with his wife Annette and daughters Tiffany and Ashley in a century old cabin nestled against the Lake of Draper, Ontario.

Eric Tardif

At first a young naturalist in the nature reserve of Cape Tourmente on the shores of the majestic St Lawrence River (recognized around the world as an exceptional bird observation center), Éric Tardif became a sculptor. His passion for wild birds, their natural elegance and gracious movement became the inspiration for his creativity.

By using steam, he forms walnut, Canadian maple, ash, cherry and elm, giving life to birds in movement. The choice of wood adds touches that are sometimes voluptuous, sometimes solemn.

From his passion for nature in all its wild vastness comes gracious shapes crystallized by the artist in all their intimacy and immortalized in their movement. The treatment of the wood by the artist becomes the singular expression of his untamed spirit.

Timothy Schmalz

Timothy Schmalz has been professionally sculpting for twenty years.  In 2006, Schmalz began dedicating his time to the subject of Germanic/Celtic images.  The stories and beliefs of northern Europeans have inspired Schmalz to give new forms and representations to this ancient culture.  His works are created in traditional figurative style and timeless materials: wood, stone and clay.   His pieces not only express the richness of European heritage, but also portray the beauty of the human form and nature.

Gaia Glassworks

Kiln fired art by Kim Mckellar.  Kim's art wether it be drawn, painted, sculpted or fired has always been about connection.  She creates her vision of a world full of possibility and hope and the myraid of ways we are offered the oportunity to be in a relationship with each other and the earth.

Frances Tyrrell

Internationally published Artists and Illustrator, Frances Tyrrell's whimsical and detailed watercolours delight the child inside each of us.

Laurie Sponagle

Representational or abstract, Laurie's charcoal drawings imply a human presence, whether actual or implied.  With Laurie's new abstract series, she has been able to experiment more with the charcoal, incorporating it with other media and introducing colour.  In a Heartbeat is currently displaying drawings from Laurie's Conversations with Time series and her abstract series.

Janus

Janus' drawn paintings, sculptures and installations are widely exhibited internationally. She often uses interactive art as a method to create visual and conceptual art.  Through this interaction, creative thinking and tactile response allows participants to yield opinions, which evokes a tolerance for different experiences and ideas.  Janus is a long-time       resident of Eden Mills, Ontario where she lives with her two children.

Peter Grimaldi

Peter’s inspiring photography captures the true emotion of a moment.  A long time resident of Eden Mills, Peter is inspired not only by his international travel, but also by the beautiful countryside that surrounds his tiny village.

Richard Pilon

Richard's coloured pencil drawings are extremely detailed works.  All his drawings are one of a kind and inspired by the life and landscapes surrounding his home of Eden Mills.

Keith Walsh

A cabinet maker by trade, Keith began prospecting in 1988 and together with his mining partner began to mine a site north of Bellville, Ontario. Still active today the mine produces "Rockmanite," a soapstone like rock that is available in both red and blue hues. His  Rockmanite tables are all one of a kind and cut by a diamond saw that Keith also designed and built.

Diana E. Skeates

Diana has felt a life-long kinship with the artistry of the Celts and a great reverence for the detailed illustrations of monks who created such manuscripts as The Book of Kells. Diana was born in Northern Ontario. Many of her early years were spent in Kenya and England. At the age of seven, she returned to Canada with her family.  While musically and artistically gifted as a child, Diana didn't start painting until she was an adult. Diana is innately gifted in creating the knotwork in her art: try to follow the lines in some of her intricate pieces and notice how each of them alternately weaves under and over one another.

Anna Simon

Anna, a professional counsellor, while encouraging her clients to persue their dreams began to explore her own life-long love of art.  Anna's expressive clay sculptures have found a home in many private collections across Canada and the USA.  Anna lives in the converted old stone mill in Eden Mills with her husband Charles.

Pat Button

Pat lives in Wellington County, and as he wanders the woods near his home, the fallen trees show him their true image, and he draws these visions out through the grain.  His beautifully detailed hand-carved wooden sculptues, and colourful walking sticks are fun and intriguing.

Tyler Francks

Tyler Francks, Sculptor and Artist
Medium: limestone, alabaster and soapstone
Specialties: wildlife, abstract, spiritual
Tyler has been sculpting for close to a decade. Her studio is located in Eden Mills ON, Canada. On sculpting she comments, "I love intuiting patterns, in nature, in people and places. I like exploring natural boundaries... of light, sounds, senses and matter. I bring that discovery into my sculptures. When I create, I aim to invoke designs which convey an aspect of elan vital, capturing the essence of what was resonating in that moment, simply and honestly".

Things to do near Eden Mills

Rockwood is just 5 minutes from Eden Mills and hosts many places to eat and shop. We recommend Heaven on Seven for a wonderful meal and the Rockwood Conservation Area for camping, swimming and a walk through history on the Eramosa River which has powered many mid 1800's mills.  The Eramosa River is well fished and boated. Kayak and canoe runs are particularly invigorating during the spring runoff.  There are many walking trails in the area which are good for the soul and your dog. Moffat, just moments away, is the site of Dar’s Bakery which you will not want to miss.

Eden Mills has over 20 artists studios most of which are open by appointment or chance.  Several of Eden's artists have their work at In a Heartbeat
